Have you ever heard of Zentangle?

I first heard about it while watching The View (one of my guilty pleasures), when Rosie O’Donnell shared her favorite relaxation method. I was intrigued as she explained it, hit Google, and went from intrigued to fascinated.

I found a class here in the Memphis area — at Studio Nysha in Bartlett. You have to be certified to teach Zentangle, and this guy is amazing.

It’s not about drawing something recognizable, just making marks on paper that create patterns. There’s no right or wrong, and the goal is to breathe, focus, and relax.

So I got hooked, and I took Jim along with me. Here’s my latest tangle, which is what you call each individual square that you do.

I’m not the greatest, but I’m getting better every day. You have to try this.

This tangle includes D-vine, Hollibaugh, and Organza

There’s another class starting soon. It doesn’t matter if you can’t draw – it’s not about drawing. Do it. I promise you’ll love it.

  1. Awesome! He’s a great instructor, and there’s another class starting up pretty soon, I think. Let me know when the story is published!

  2. How cool is this? After reading this, I just emailed the studio to request an interview for a story in my paper. I also asked about pricing because I would love to give this a whirl. See what you started? ;o)
